A secondary school which caters for children with severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties in the borough of Southwark is looking for speech and language learning assistant to join their team. The role requires that you work Monday to Friday (term time only) during the hours 08:30- 16:00 and would be starting after the Easter Break.

The school has three main aims for its pupils to be able to communicate as fully as possible, to develop as many self-help skills as possible to become independent and included as fully as possible.

The ideal candidate will be a caring compassionate individual who excels working in a special education environment.

You will be working on a 1:1 providing support to children who need support with their speech and following the lesson plans which have been set by the speech therapist. It is important that you are confident working with speech sounds, synthetic phonics and narrative groups either in a professional manner or personal.

To be considered for this role, you must be:

• Able to come up with creative approaches to keep students engaged with the learning process.
• Available immediately and able to commit for at least 6 months.
• Able to prepare materials for lessons as well as adapt current resources.
• Comfortable assessing a pupil's progress and supporting the class teacher.
• Able to provide a reference from the last two years working with children or vulnerable adults in either a professional or volunteer capacity.

An enhanced DBS is required by law to work with children, if you do not have one on the update service, you must be prepared to apply for one through Protocol Education at the cost of £40.
