Protocol Education are recruiting care professionals who want to explore a career as a teaching assistant. As a teaching assistant, you will be working full time in one of our special needs schools located in the borough of Southwark. The school are looking for specialist care teaching assistants to provide support for academic studies, developing communication skills and engaging students with sensory integration. As part of the role you will be working 1:1 or lead small groups of learners with special needs such as severe learning difficulties and physical disabilities.

As a specialist provision, the school require someone who is experienced or open about working in special needs. As part of the role, we offer accredited CPD that include learning strategies, behaviour techniques and medical procedures. If you have experience working as a support worker but would like to work more sociable hours, this is the ideal role for you. All experience working/volunteering with vulnerable adults or children will be considered as long as you are passionate about working with special needs.

This role will be long-term with a view to become permanent as this school does tend to recruit familiar faces when they have allocation to hire new people.

Your main duties will be;

• Support students with their work
• Manage/develop students behaviour
• Supervising classroom activities
• Report back to teachers about students work

The school has fantastic resources for creative subjects and hosts a high spec music facility, every other term they put on a performance for families and carers to see the work they do.
Due to the nature of a special school, there are aspects of personal care involved so only apply for this role if you are open to supporting pupils to be clean and safe as well as to learn.
