Primary SEN Support Teaching Assistant

Protocol Education is recruiting Special Needs Teachers for September roles across South London.

We work closely with a wide range of specialist SEND schools across boroughs including Wandsworth, Merton, Kingston, Sutton, Croydon, Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Bromley. Our schools are looking to meet passionate, resilient and committed teachers who want to make a genuine difference to pupils with additional needs.

These opportunities are suitable for experienced SEND teachers, mainstream teachers looking to move into specialist education, and Early Career Teachers with a strong interest in SEND.

About the roles

We are recruiting teachers for a range of specialist settings supporting pupils with:

  • Autism / ASC
  • Severe Learning Difficulties
  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs
  • Complex medical needs
  • Speech, language and communication needs
  • Sensory needs
  • Physical disabilities

Roles may include teaching across EYFS, Primary, Secondary or Post-16, depending on your experience, strengths and preferences.

What the schools are looking for

We are looking to speak with teachers who are:

  • Qualified Teachers with QTS or equivalent
  • Experienced in SEND, or genuinely interested in moving into specialist education
  • Confident planning and delivering creative, adaptive lessons
  • Able to work closely with support staff, therapists and wider school teams
  • Patient, resilient and emotionally intelligent
  • Committed to building strong relationships with pupils and families
  • Passionate about helping every pupil make progress, however small the steps may be

Previous SEND experience is highly desirable, but not always essential. Many schools are open to meeting teachers from mainstream backgrounds who have the right attitude, strong classroom practice and a genuine passion for inclusive education.

Why teach in a specialist SEND school?

Teaching in SEND can be one of the most rewarding areas of education. You will often work with smaller class groups, strong support teams and pupils who benefit from personalised, creative and highly structured teaching approaches.

You will have the opportunity to develop your skills in:

  • Differentiated and adaptive teaching
  • Communication strategies, including visual supports and AAC
  • Sensory-based learning
  • Behaviour support and de-escalation
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Supporting pupils with complex and individual learning profiles

What Protocol Education can offer

  • September teaching opportunities across South London
  • Long-term, short-term and temp-to-perm roles
  • Access to a wide range of specialist SEND schools
  • Guidance on which settings may best suit your experience and career goals
  • Support from a specialist SEND consultant with strong local school relationships
  • Competitive rates of pay
  • Ongoing CPD and professional support

Whether you are an experienced SEND teacher, a mainstream teacher considering a move into specialist education, or an ECT looking for the right September opportunity, we would be happy to speak with you.
