Job description
Protocol Education are currently seeking dedicated teaching assistants with knowledge of supporting children experiencing Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) and complex difficulties, for ongoing daily positions in an alternative provision in the Sunderland area with immediate starts available.

How long is this role for?

This role will be on a weekly basis with the possibility of multi-site working, with the potential for the right person to be offered Long Term work.

What would you be expected to do daily?

• Support academic studies
• Develop students social and communication
• Provide 1:1 support through daily transitions during the school day
• Spot emotional behavioural triggers and de-escalate the situation
• Tailor set work to meet the needs of the child

What will you need for this position?

• Experience working with autism, social mental health disabilities and challenging behaviour
• Excellent communication skills
• The ability to use initiative and that can work well under pressure.
• Recognising emotional behavioural triggers and identifying successful approaches that enable academic and social progression
• Differentiating work to meet the needs of the child


You will need to have strong proven behaviour and classroom management and mentoring skills as most students will display severe challenging behaviour.

Other qualifications are desirable:
• Team Teach/MAPA
• Positive handling
• Restorative justice
• First Aid trained
