Job description
Role

To take responsibility for the care, welfare and development of the child.

To work within an agreed system of supervision, to implement agreed work
programmes in and out of the classroom.

To take responsibility for short term planning agreed with the Class Teacher
and authorised by the Headteacher, with the primary focus of ensuring
continued learning and to keep the child on task.

The post holder must carry out duties within the guidelines of the
County Council agreed framework 2004 and the Education Act 2002, with
particular regard to the regulations made under Section 133 and the statutory
responsibilities for the Governing Bodies of Schools.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Support for the Children

1. To undertake educational activities in both the indoor and outdoor
environments, to ensure safety and facilitate their emotional and
educational development.

2. To carry out pre-determined educational activities and work
programmes whilst promoting independent learning.

3. To Support with cognition and learning difficulties by following IEPs

4. To work to establish a supportive relationship with the child and parents
concerned.

5. To promote and encourage acceptance and inclusion of special needs.

6. To promote and reinforce self esteem and contribute to their well being.

7. To support in developing appropriate relationships.

8. To assist with personal, social, behavioural and emotional skills.

Support for the Teacher and Staff

1. To monitor individual needs and provide feedback to the teacher on
progress.

2. To keep such records of development as required by the school.

3. To enable the differing curriculum needs to be met, in liaison with the
class teacher.

4. To liaise with other agencies if appropriate.

5. To assist in the preparation of resources and materials.

6. To maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.

7. To support the use of ICT in the classroom.

Support for the School

1. To be aware of the school's policies and procedures e.g. child
protection and safeguarding, behaviour, equal opportunities and
teaching and learning.

2. To be aware of confidential issues linked to home/pupil/teacher/school
and to keep confidences as appropriate.

3. To comply with Health and Safety policies and ensure safe working
practices.

4. To be proactive in taking advantage of professional development
opportunities (course, staff meetings, INSET days).

5. To perform playtime and lunchtime supervision duties as required.

6. To be a good role-model, set high standards and have high
expectations.

7. To undertake any other curriculum duties, which may reasonable be
regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities of the
post/grade.
