About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant with proven experience supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who require additional support to thrive both academically and emotionally.

You will work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals to provide tailored support that enables pupils to engage positively with learning and school life.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and personalised learning plans
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to promote emotional regulation and engagement
  • Support the development of social skills, resilience, and self-esteem
  • Assist in managing challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to monitor progress and adapt interventions
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and behaviour


Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and trauma-informed approaches
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and empathetic in challenging situations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners


Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or SEND support
  • Experience in a school, alternative provision, or specialist setting
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Team Teach, MAPA, or similar behaviour management training

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
