Job description
SEND Teaching Assistant

A school situated on the Croydon/Sutton border are currently looking for teaching assistants that have experience working with young people with profound multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). The pupils that attend this school are aged between 2 - 19.

If you enjoy working in a challenging environment where every day is different from the rest then this school could be an ideal work place for you.

Many of the children at this school are wheelchair bound, therefore prior experience using hoists and assisting with personal care is essential. As many of the students have communication difficulties prior experience with Makaton and PECs would be desirable

Skills Required:
·Experience with PMLD
·Manual Lifting Experience
·Personal Care

Your main duties will include:
·Inspiring and engaging with pupils with physical and mental difficulties.
·Assessing individual learning needs and working on a group basis.
·Preparing materials, equipment and lessons
·Assessing and reporting on individual pupils' progress
·Assisting with the personal care needs of pupils; this may include feeding, changing and manual handling.

As part of these checks, we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in schools. If you do not have a valid subscription to the DBS Update Service, we will require you to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process, at a cost of £44.00. Please note this role will require you to have clearance to work with children and young adults.
