SEN Support Jobs Teaching Assistant

Not “just” a TA. The calm in the storm.

Some pupils need more than support.
They need consistency. Patience. Someone who doesn’t flinch when things get tricky.

If you’re the steady presence in the room, the one who spots the wobble before it turns into a meltdown, this could be your kind of role.

We’re working with a specialist SEND school in Doncaster looking for a confident, compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with complex needs including autism, ADHD and social, emotional and mental health needs.

This isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about making school feel safe, structured and possible for every child.

What your day might look like:

  • Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups

  • Using visual timetables, sensory strategies and structured routines

  • Helping children regulate emotions and re-engage with learning

  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and therapists

  • Celebrating the small wins, because they matter

You’ll be part of a team that understands behaviour is communication and believes relationships come first.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience supporting children or young people with SEND

  • Stays calm, even when the classroom feels anything but

  • Understands de-escalation and trauma-informed approaches

  • Builds trust through consistency and kindness

  • Wants a role where their work genuinely changes a child’s day

If you’ve worked in a SEND school, PRU, alternative provision or care setting, we’d love to hear from you.

Why this school?

  • Supportive leadership who value their support staff

  • Ongoing training and development opportunities

  • A strong focus on emotional wellbeing and structured practice

  • A team who pull together, no egos, no drama

You won’t be left to “figure it out”. You’ll be supported, appreciated and part of something meaningful.

Why Protocol Education?

We keep things simple, honest and supportive.

  • Weekly pay through PAYE, no umbrella companies

  • FREE access to our online CPD Academy

  • Personalised support from a dedicated consultant who actually listens

  • Opportunities in mainstream, SEND and alternative settings

  • Streamlined registration and local bookings

  • Referral scheme, earn rewards for referring friends

We don’t just place you and disappear. We stay in touch, check in, and make sure the role is working for you.

If you’re ready for a role where your calm presence makes a real difference, apply now or get in touch for a chat. Let’s find you a school that values what you bring.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer FREE online safeguarding and Prevent Duty training to all our workers. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.
