Primary SEN Support Teaching Assistant

Are you the calm in the storm? The steady voice in a busy classroom? We’re looking for a brilliant SEND Support TA to join Year 2 in a primary school in North Shields.

This is a high-needs school, full of personality, potential, and pupils who need the right adults around them to thrive. You won’t be tied to just one child. Instead, you’ll work on rotation with different SEND pupils across the year group, supporting a range of needs and helping each child access learning in their own way.

No two days will look exactly the same, and that’s part of the magic.

About the school

This is a warm, community-driven primary school where staff know their pupils inside out, where relationships come first, and where teamwork genuinely matters. The school supports a high number of pupils with additional needs, so inclusion isn’t just a buzzword here, it’s part of everyday life. You’ll see visual timetables on the walls, calm corners set up with care, and staff who understand that emotional regulation is just as important as phonics.

Senior leaders are hands-on and visible, supporting staff with clear routines, consistent behaviour approaches, and ongoing CPD. There’s a strong focus on nurture, structure, and celebrating progress, however small it might seem to others. If you value being part of a close-knit team that rallies together on the tricky days and celebrates the wins loudly on the good ones, you’ll feel right at home.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting pupils with a variety of SEND needs within a Year 2 setting

  • Rotating between children to provide targeted, structured support

  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt learning

  • Helping create a calm, safe, and encouraging classroom environment

  • Celebrating the small wins, because they matter

This role would suit someone who is patient, adaptable, and genuinely passionate about inclusive education. You’ll need resilience, a sense of humour, and the ability to build trust quickly.

We’d love you to have:

  • Personal or professional experience working with SEND

  • A calm, consistent approach to behaviour

  • Strong communication skills

  • A team-player mindset

  • A genuine belief that every child can succeed with the right support

High-needs settings aren’t for everyone. But if you’re the kind of person who sees potential before problems, who understands that progress looks different for every child, and who wants to be part of something meaningful, this could be a great fit.
