Secondary Support Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated SEND Support Assistant to join a highly inclusive and community-focused secondary school in North Tyneside. This is a fantastic opportunity to support students with additional needs in a school that places inclusion, high expectations and student wellbeing at the heart of everything it does.

You will work closely with the SEND team to provide targeted support for students with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH and learning difficulties, ensuring they can access the curriculum confidently and successfully.

North Tyneside
£95 – £110 per day | PAYE | Depending on experience

Why This School Stands Out

This school has worked hard to build a culture of inclusion and belonging. With strong leadership and a clear improvement journey behind it, the school now offers a calm, structured environment where staff are supported and students are encouraged to thrive.

The SEND provision is a real strength. There is a collaborative approach between teaching staff, pastoral teams and the SENCO, meaning support assistants are valued as key members of the wider team. Staff wellbeing is prioritised and professional development is encouraged.

What makes this opportunity attractive:

  • A strong and experienced SEND leadership team

  • Clear systems and structured support across the school

  • Investment in staff training and development

  • A welcoming, team-oriented culture

  • A school ethos centred on resilience, ambition and respect

This is a setting where support staff genuinely make a difference every single day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEND

  • Adapt resources to meet individual learning needs

  • Support emotional regulation and engagement in lessons

  • Work closely with teachers to track progress

  • Contribute to EHCP reviews and student support plans

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience supporting young people with SEND

  • Patient, empathetic and resilient approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Passionate about inclusive education

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
