Job description
Our client, a SEND School in South West London is seeking to appoint a specialist SEND Teacher to join their team from September 2017. The school cater to Secondary pupils with a range of needs; however the majority of pupils are on the autistic spectrum. As a result the school are seeking to appoint an ASD Teacher who can hit the ground running, in order to ensure there is limited disruption within the classes.

The classroom team consists of two specialist Learning Support Assistants (LSAs). The team are very friendly and have a great understanding of the needs and characteristics of the children in class.

All applicants should ideally have experience teaching students with autism, preferably within a specialist SEND environment. The school however will consider good to outstanding secondary teachers with recent experience teaching a pupil or pupils with more complex learning needs/autism in a mainstream school will be considered although the school are clear that the challenge will be difficult initially.

The ideal candidate would have:

• A proven record of teaching SEND students with autism.

• A good understanding of P levels and experience working with Key Stage 3/4 as well as post 16.

• The ability to prepare and teach effective lessons taking into account the individual needs of learners.

• Have a basic understanding of makaton and Communication Print (e.g. PECS).

• A creative approach to lesson planning.

• A patient, calm and engaging classroom manner.

• Strong communication and team leadership skills.

• Full teacher status with QTS.

Successful Applicants will be subject to references and an up to date DBS or be willing to apply for a Protocol DBS.
