We are working with an SEND setting in Oldham who require a qualified teacher for a year long maternity cover from 19th April 2021.

The post holder will deliver the English Curriculum in the SEND setting.

Candidates must have:
• QTS
• SEMH /MLD /SEND experience
• Subject knowledge to Functional skills /GCSE
• Willingness to support other areas of the curriculum
• Candidates must have emotional and physical resilience. Team Teach or de-escalation training is important.

The main duties of the role are:
• To plan and deliver the English curriculum at NC levels P8 to Functional skills
• To support other areas of the curriculum offer at Springboard
• To demonstrate a nurturing approach to behaviour management
• To regularly monitor and assess the progress of pupils, ensuring their improved engagement with the school and their learning
• To record progress and provide regular feedback to stakeholders.
• To liaise with parents and carers on progress and personal development
• To work in partnership with external agencies and providers including additional specialist provision
• To model and encourage appropriate social behaviour in and out of school and to cater for the general welfare of pupils
• To work in partnership with classroom teachers/deliverers to differentiate appropriate interventions for pupils in relation to the curriculum

Required candidate qualities are:
• Previous experience of planning and delivering learning activities across a range of curriculum subject areas
• Experience of working with children and young people in an educational setting to overcome barriers to their personal, social or learning development.
• Knowledge and understanding of pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties and MLD
• To have high expectations of young people, and a commitment to raising standards of attainment to ensure that they can achieve their full educational potential
• Experience of developing options and alternatives that will support children and young people to engage in the learning process
• Experience of managing challenging behaviour
• The emotional and physical resilience necessary when working with disaffected and challenging young people with a range of complex needs
• A genuine appreciation of the potential barriers to a pupil's learning, and sensitivity towards their circumstances and life experiences
• To be able to build positive relationships with the class group, ensuring consistency and continuity on a daily basis.
