Job description
Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant Specialising in Social and Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) for Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)

Protocol Education are currently working with a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) based in Hartlepool who are seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant (TA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) with the ability to manage very challenging and extreme behaviour.

The PRU caters to both primary and secondary aged pupils who have been excluded from mainstream schooling due to Social and Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties and offers positive outcomes for young people who have disengaged, or are at the point of disengaging with education. Therefore, it is pivotal to have a strong and confident personality in order to take an objective approach to combat the challenging behaviour. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a demonstratable capacity to exercise the upmost patience.

Key skills and experience needed:
• Experience working in specialist schools such as Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) schools or PRUs - this experience is essential
• Previous support work within a school or other child related experience
Strong behaviour management and confident with challenging behaviour
• One to one and small group work
• Team Teach or equivalent
