Learning support Assistant

September Start

A specialist college in the heart of Croydon are currently looking for strong Learning Support Workers with the ability to work with severe challenging behaviours. Students are drawn from a borough which reflects a diverse urban community with the age range of 5 to 19.

This school is a multi-site special school for students with Social, Emotional and Attachment difficulties, particularly challenging behaviour, and/or additional complex needs This school seeks to provide a tailored educational experience that recognises and attends to the circumstances and needs of each individual child or young person.

This role is solely for those who have a passion for young people, are patient and resilient. These young people have come from a range of different backgrounds and environments that have affected and shaped their emotional needs and thought process to life. Children and young people with severe behaviour difficulties normally struggle to communicate their feelings which can prevent them from moving forward, however with consistent, strong and firm support they have a great chance of thriving.

The ideal candidates for this position will have:

·Ideally worked with children in a safe guarded setting
·Flexibility - Willing to work across different age groups and classes
·The ability to create and maintain relationships
·Strong communication skills
·Ability to remain calm
·Punctual
·Reliable
·A good sense of humour
·Creative Personality
·Willingness to learn
·Good understanding of Special education needs
·Experience managing challenging behaviour


To work in this school you must endure patience, have a young person-centred approach, strong communication skills and a non-judgemental approach. These are key components to a successful candidate for this position. The children at this school have extreme challenging behaviour and require firm and consistent support.
