Job description
Special Needs Teaching Assistant based in Hounslow

Protocol Education are working with a well-known SEND school in Hounslow, located near Hounslow East Station. This is a large Special Needs School with a separate Specialist Nursery Site located 10 minutes away. Both sites are purpose built for Special Needs and have over 190 students (EYFS to KS2).

They are currently looking for candidates to cover daily shifts and long-term cover.

About the school:

There are 140 students at the Primary school site. They cater for children with the following special needs:

-Profound Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
-Autism (ASC)
-Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
-Complex Needs
-Challenging Behaviours


Majority of the school classes are specific to the children's needs. There are some mixed classes and they also have some able classes.

The structure of the school is split into two. One side for the Autistic and severe learning needs classes and the other side is for the PMLD and complex needs classes.

The school day for staff starts at 8:30am and leave at 3:45pm. Students will start school at 9:15am and leave at 3:15pm.

The school days is split between 5 lessons (with playtime and snack time in the morning - followed by lunchtime and then an additional snack time in the afternoon). On some occasions a lesson or snack time may be substituted for an assembly.



Training:

The school provide free daily booster lessons for speech with sign language (Makaton) to help Teaching Assistants communicate and develop spoken language in children.

They provide training for staff to support students with complex needs; as there will be manual handling involved. They have 7 members of staff who are fully trained in manual handling and hoisting.

Team teach is used at the school to de-escalate behavioural difficulties.

Personal care is required for this role.
