Learning support Assistant

September Start

A specialist school for children with severe learning difficulties in Croydon are actively looking for support workers with the ability to work with children who have challenging behaviours, and severe learning difficulties between the ages of 4 to 11.

Red Gates School is a strong believer that all children have the right to the best education experience that enables their individual potential to be fully identified and achieved. They have a need-led, child centred inclusive philosophy which underpins the working of the school as a community.

This role is exclusively for those who have a positive attitude to children with special needs and their learning. Children with special needs often have difficulty access their learning in the same way as other children, however with the right support and guidance they can achieve and thrive the same way anyone else does.


The ideal candidates for this position will have:

·Ideally worked with children in a safe guarded setting
·Flexibility - Willing to work across different age groups and classes
·The ability to create and maintain relationships
·Strong communication skills
·Ability to remain calm
·Punctual
·Reliable
·A good sense of humour
·Creative Personality
·Willingness to learn
·Good understanding of Special education needs
·Experience managing challenging behaviour


To work in this school, you need to be devoted to support children the best way personalised for their specific need. Creative thinking and good commination skills are key components to a successful candidate for this position. Most students at this school have moderate to severe learning difficulties and often require firm and consistent support.
