SEND Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Specialist Schools | Havering & Thurrock
Are you an experienced and passionate SEND HLTA looking to join supportive specialist school settings across Havering and Thurrock?
Protocol Education is currently recruiting dedicated SEND Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to work within a range of specialist provisions and SEND schools across Havering and Thurrock. Our partner schools support children and young people with a variety of additional needs including ASD, SEMH, MLD, SLD and complex learning difficulties.
This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced support staff who are passionate about inclusive education and want to play a key role in supporting pupils’ academic, social and emotional development within specialist settings.
As a SEND HLTA, your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the delivery of engaging and differentiated learning activities
Leading small group interventions and delivering targeted support sessions
Providing classroom support for pupils with ASD, SEMH and complex needs
Promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation and student engagement
Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and support staff
Supporting the implementation of EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
Helping to create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
Encouraging independence, confidence and positive outcomes for all learners
Providing classroom cover when required and supporting across different learning environments
To be considered for these opportunities, you should have:
HLTA qualification or significant experience within a similar SEND support role
Previous experience working within SEND, SEMH or specialist education settings
A strong understanding of additional needs and inclusive learning strategies
Excellent communication and behaviour management skills
A calm, patient and adaptable approach to supporting children and young people
An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs and barriers to learning

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
