Calm, consistent and ready to make a real difference?
We’re looking for a SEND Teaching Assistant to join a high-needs mixed Nursery and Reception classroom at a Primary School in Lemington, Newcastle.
This isn’t a sit-back-and-observe kind of role. It’s hands-on, heart-led, and all about building trust with little ones who need that bit of extra support to feel safe, settled, and ready to learn.
The class supports children with high SEMH needs and behaviour that can be challenging at times. So we’re after someone steady, patient, and confident, someone who understands that behind every big behaviour is a little person asking for help.
EYFS experience is a bonus, but it’s not essential. What matters most is your knowledge of SEND and your ability to create structure, warmth and clear boundaries in equal measure.
What you’ll be doing
• Supporting children across Nursery and Reception in a high-needs environment
• Working closely with the class teacher and SENDCo
• Helping pupils regulate emotions and build positive routines
• Using consistent behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
• Celebrating the small wins, because in this setting, they matter
We’re looking for someone who:
• Has experience supporting children with SEND, particularly SEMH
• Understands behaviour as communication
• Can stay calm when things feel anything but
• Builds strong, trusting relationships with young children
• Brings patience, empathy and a good sense of humour
If you’ve worked in a SEND school, alternative provision, PRU, specialist unit or high-needs mainstream classroom, we’d love to hear from you.
Thrive training would be a huge plus. Not trained yet? No problem. We offer FREE Thrive training to our educators because emotional wellbeing matters just as much as phonics and number bonds. It’s a brilliant string to your bow and schools genuinely value it.
About the School

If you’re looking for a role where you’re valued, backed up, and part of a team that genuinely cares, this could be a great fit.
