A New Specialist School in Stonebridge for Pupils with Barriers to Learning (based in BRENT)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

MAIN responsibilities:

The core duties and responsibilities of a Class Teacher at Edith Kay shall include the following:
•To educate and support students with Education Health Care plans according to guidelines provided by the National Curriculum Framework.
•To be able to plan and teach lessons from Entry Level 1 to GCSE or beyond, taking into consideration the starting point of individual learners
•To educate students according to their educational needs, abilities, aptitude and prior attainment, following the guidance of the SEN code of Practice (2015)

GENERAL DUTIES:
·Adopting the ethos and vision of our school
·Planning, preparing and delivering lessons to all students in the group or individuals, as appropriate
·Teaching according to the educational needs, abilities and prior achievement of learners
·Assigning work, correcting and marking work carried out students;
·Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress, attainment and behaviour of one's students;
·Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references for the annual review process;
·Participating in staff training, performance management and CPD;
·Liaising with parents, carers, the Headteacher and outside agencies to ensure the general progress and well-being of individual students;
·Providing guidance and advice to students on how to progress in English
•Reviewing and evaluating one's own teaching and learning strategies, methodologies and programme/s in line with the National Curriculum Framework guidelines;

•Advising and co-operating with the Headteacher in the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral care arrangements;
•Ensuring high standards of professional practice and quality of teaching;
•Maintaining good order and discipline amongst students under one's care and safeguarding their health and safety at all times;
•Participating in staff, group or other meetings related to the school curriculum or pastoral care arrangements, for the better organization and administration of the school;
•Contributing to the professional development of new teachers and student teachers according to arrangements agreed with the Headteacher;
•Ensuring the safe custody and optimum use of equipment normally used by oneself during lessons and sees to its regular servicing and maintenance;
•Participating in school meetings, assemblies, break and lunch rotas and parents' evenings as required;
•Registering and monitoring the attendance and punctuality of students under one's care;
•Nurturing a culture where teachers view themselves essentially as facilitators of learning and reflective practitioners;
•Together with the Learning Support Assistants, implementing, monitoring and updating the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) of students;
•Ensuring that schemes of work carried out in class are shared with LSA's in good time and that high quality partnership planning takes place;
•Regularly discussing, monitoring the work being carried out by the LSA in class;
•Ensuring that learning is adapted and differentiated to meet student needs and that access arrangements are in place for any learners who are being assessed;
•Undertaking any reasonable duties as outlined by the Headteacher.
