Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs to achieve their full potential?

We are currently recruiting dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to work within a range of welcoming primary schools across Gateshead and the surrounding areas. Whether you're an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or have transferable skills from care, support work or childcare, we'd love to hear from you.

This is an excellent opportunity to join supportive school environments where you'll play a vital role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning while building their confidence, independence and social skills.

About the Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide high-quality one-to-one and small group support for pupils with Special Educational Needs.
  • Support children with a range of additional needs including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, learning difficulties, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers and the school's SENCO to deliver personalised learning strategies.
  • Adapt classroom resources and activities to meet individual learning needs.
  • Encourage pupils to engage positively in lessons and school life.
  • Promote emotional wellbeing, confidence, communication and independence.
  • Use positive behaviour management techniques to support pupils throughout the school day.
  • Observe, monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff where required.
  • Foster positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers and external professionals.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for individuals who have:

  • Experience working with children with SEN within a school, nursery, care or support setting (desirable but not essential).
  • A patient, calm and nurturing approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build trusting relationships with children.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to adapt to individual pupil needs.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.

What We Offer

  • Competitive daily rates of pay.
  • Long-term, short-term and permanent opportunities.
  • Flexible working to suit your availability.
  • Access to ongoing CPD and specialist SEN training.
  • Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement.
  • Opportunities to gain valuable experience across a variety of primary schools.
  • A rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference every day.

If you're passionate about supporting children with additional needs and want to be part of their educational journey, we'd love to hear from you.
