Job description
Our client, a SEN School in Islington is seeking to appoint a specialist SEN Teacher to join their team from January 2017. The pupils have a variety of complex needs, including significant physical, learning and communication needs, with many having additional medical needs and sensory needs. As a result the school are seeking to appoint an SEN Teacher who can hit the ground running, in order to ensure there is limited disruption within the classes.

The class in question is a Key Stage 3 class, with eight pupils supported by a team of four teaching assistants. The team are very friendly and have a great understanding of the needs and characteristics of the children in class.

All applicants should ideally have experience teaching within a specialist SEN environment. The school however will consider good to outstanding teachers with recent experience teaching a pupil or pupils with more complex learning needs in a mainstream school.


The ideal candidate would have:

·A proven record of teaching SEN students

·A good understanding of P levels

·The ability to prepare and teach effective lessons taking into account the individual needs of learners

·A clear understanding of TEACCH practices and ABA techniques

·Have a basic understanding of PECS and Makaton

·A creative approach to lesson planning

·A patient, calm and engaging classroom manner

·Strong communication and team leadership skills

·Full teacher status

·Registered DBS or be prepared to carry out a new DBS application.
