About the Opportunity

We are currently supporting a range of secondary schools across Wakefield who are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to join their teams.

These roles are ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them access learning, build confidence, and achieve their potential in a mainstream or specialist secondary setting.

The Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and the SENCO to provide tailored support to students with a range of additional needs, which may include autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, SEMH, or learning difficulties.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for students with SEN
  • Supporting students to access the curriculum and remain engaged in lessons
  • Assisting with behaviour support and emotional regulation
  • Working alongside teachers to adapt learning materials and activities
  • Encouraging independence, confidence, and positive social interaction
  • Supporting EHCP targets and contributing to progress monitoring
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with students

We are looking for individuals who are:

  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient
  • Passionate about supporting young people with additional needs
  • Able to build strong relationships with students and staff
  • Flexible and proactive in their approach
  • Good communicators and team players
  • Experienced in education or youth work (desirable but not essential)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
