SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant - Bristol

Every child deserves someone who believes in them.

Could that someone be you?

We're looking for a caring, resilient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a specialist setting in Bristol, supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This isn't your average classroom role. Every day brings new challenges, new achievements and plenty of moments that remind you why you chose to work with young people in the first place.

Whether it's helping a pupil regulate their emotions, celebrating a breakthrough in learning or simply being a trusted adult they can rely on, your support will have a lasting impact.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
  • Helping children with SEN and SEMH needs access learning in a safe, supportive environment.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour using a calm, consistent approach.
  • Building trusting relationships that help pupils grow in confidence.
  • Working alongside teachers, therapists and pastoral teams to support each child's individual needs.
  • Creating a positive learning environment where every pupil feels valued.

We'd love to hear from you if you have

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN, SEMH or additional needs.
  • A patient, positive and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to stay calm and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in education, youth work, residential care, support work, coaching or mentoring is highly desirable, but not essential.

Why you'll love this school

You'll be joining a welcoming and supportive team where every member of staff plays an important role. The school is committed to helping pupils thrive both academically and emotionally, and you'll receive ongoing support and opportunities to develop your skills.

Why work with Protocol Education?

  • Weekly PAYE pay, no umbrella companies.
  • FREE access to our online CPD Academy.
  • Personalised support from your dedicated consultant.
  • Opportunities across mainstream, SEND and alternative provisions.
  • A simple registration process and local placements.
  • Referral scheme, earn rewards for recommending friends.

If you're passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and want a role where no two days are ever the same, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and start making a difference where it matters most.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
