Job description

A lovely primary school in Enfield are looking for a Teaching Assistant with Special Educational Needs experience, to support an SEN student, who displays challenging behaviour and Autism. The child will need the support of a candidate who is very reassuring, affectionate, calm and able to use strategies that would support the child when distressed. The role will be full time to start from September 2017.


The school has been graded as a Good' school by Ofsted. They have a large site with modern facilities and strong ties to the community. They provide a range of courses to all their staff in order to ensure they are upto date with current strategies, methods and procedures.

Roles and responsibilities:
• Providing 1:1 support to a child in Key Stage 2 with Autism and Challening Behaviour.
• Assisting the child with their work - in particular their Literacy and Numeracy skills.
• Recording all progress and any incidents throughout the day and relaying this information to the SENCO.
• Following the child's IEP ensuring they work towards their targets.
• Using effective behaviour management when the child becomes defiant in line with the school's behaviour management policy.
• Liaising with the SENCO and other support staff regularly - discuss strategies to support the child during lessons.
• Preparing resources to assist the child in lessons.
• Taking the child to a designated area away from the classroom when they become anxious, stressed or upset.
• Carrying out general administrative duties as required e.g. photocopying.
