A supportive and forward-thinking secondary school in Darlington is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to work with students who require additional social, emotional and mental health support.
This is a rewarding role where you will play a key part in helping young people engage with learning, regulate behaviour, and build confidence both inside and outside the classroom.
You will work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and SENCOs to provide structured support that enables students to succeed academically and personally.
Provide 1:1 and small-group support for students with SEMH needs.
Support pupils in managing behaviour and emotional regulation.
Help students stay engaged with lessons and complete learning activities.
Implement behaviour strategies and individual support plans.
Build positive, trusting relationships with students.
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEND teams and pastoral leads.
Support a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Experience working with young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs.
Background in education, youth work, care, or mentoring is desirable.
Calm, resilient and able to build strong relationships with students.
Confident supporting behaviour management strategies.
A team player who is passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable learners.
A welcoming and supportive leadership team.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
