Job description
An Ofsted outstanding' special education needs school in North Leicester has an immediate need for a Learning Support/Teaching Assistant to support a group of secondary aged pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs (SEMH). The school prides itself on its ability to engage with pupils in educational and therapeutic capacities to ensure that each pupil makes progress in learning and personal independence as they approach further education.

As a Learning Support Assistant within this special education school you will be supporting secondary age pupils with classroom, outdoor learning and activities. You will work closely with the teacher to ensure that pupils are supported with learning and personal development. You will work with pupils on a 1:1 and group basis to assist them with activities, inclusion and behaviour management.

You will have experience working with children and young people with a range of additional needs including but not limited to social, emotional and behavioural needs including ASD, Speech & Language and associated additional learning needs. Applicants with experience of working in Special Education Needs Schools or in Youth Work, Sports Coaching, Behaviour Support or Speech and Language roles would be ideal. You will need to be flexible, have enthusiasm, motivation, good communication skills and the ability to work with small groups on specific programmes if required.

You will be employed on a long term temporary contract that could lead to a permanent role after a short period of time. The school prides themselves on their ability to develop Learning Support staff through a variety of training and mentoring initiatives. You will be working 5 days a week during normal school hours. The school is within close distance to Loughborough, Coalville, Syston, Thurmaston, Birstall and East Goscote.
