We’re working with a specialist provision in Newcastle looking for a confident SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. This is a full-time, long-term role where every day genuinely matters.

Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Durham
Salary: £89–£100 per day (PAYE, no umbrella companies)

Contract: Full-time, Long-Term
Start Date: Immediate

What you’ll be doing:

• Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs on a 1:1 and small group basis

• Helping students regulate emotions and stay engaged in learning

• Working closely with teachers, SENCO and pastoral teams

• Using de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour support

• Creating a safe, structured and encouraging learning environment

What we’re looking for:

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour

• Background in education, youth work, care, sports coaching or similar

• Calm, resilient and confident personality

• Strong behaviour management skills

• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willing to apply

Team Teach or de-escalation training is a bonus, but not essential.
