SEMH Teacher

The Role

As an SEMH Teacher, you will play a key role in supporting students with a range of social, emotional, and behavioural needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is committed to helping young people overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Building positive, trusting relationships with students, many of whom may have experienced trauma or found mainstream education challenging.
• Planning and delivering creative, differentiated lessons that support both academic progress and emotional wellbeing.
• Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, mental health professionals, parents, and external agencies to provide individualised support.
• Using positive behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques to create a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
• Encouraging students to develop confidence, independence, and resilience in their learning journey.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
• Experience working with students with SEMH needs or within a similar specialist setting.
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach, with the ability to remain positive under pressure.
• A strong understanding of the impact of trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on behaviour and learning.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, alongside a genuine passion for supporting young people to succeed.
