We're looking for resilient and compassionate SEMH Support Assistants to join specialist schools across South Shields this September.

You'll support pupils who have experienced challenges both inside and outside the classroom, helping them develop confidence, emotional resilience and positive relationships. Working alongside experienced teachers and pastoral teams, you'll play a vital role in helping children feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

This opportunity would suit candidates from education, residential care, youth work, mental health support, sports coaching or similar backgrounds.

Your day-to-day role

• Supporting pupils with SEMH and additional needs
• Delivering 1:1 interventions
• Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation
• Supporting learning within the classroom
• Building trusting relationships with pupils
• Helping create a calm, structured learning environment
• Working collaboratively with teachers and support staff

What we're looking for

• Previous experience working with children or young people
• Patience, resilience and empathy
• Strong communication skills
• A proactive and positive attitude
• Passion for supporting children with additional needs
