Some students just need the right person in their corner.
A specialist SEMH secondary school in Gateshead is looking for a calm, confident 1:1 Support Assistant to support pupils who need a little extra help navigating school life.
This isn’t a sit-at-the-back-of-the-classroom role. You’ll be right there in the action, helping students build trust, confidence, and the skills they need to succeed.
No two days are the same, but here’s a taste:
Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups during lessons
Helping students regulate emotions and manage behaviour positively
Encouraging engagement in subjects like English, maths, and vocational learning
Working alongside teachers, mentors, and pastoral teams
Celebrating the little wins, because in SEMH settings, they mean everything
One moment you might be helping a student crack a maths question. The next, you’re guiding them through a tricky moment and getting them back on track.
You don’t need to be a teacher, but you do need:
A calm and patient approach
Confidence supporting young people with behavioural needs
Experience in education, youth work, care, sports coaching, or similar
The ability to build trust and positive relationships
If you’ve worked with young people who need structure, encouragement, and someone who won’t give up on them, you’ll fit right in.
We keep things simple and supportive:
Weekly PAYE pay, no umbrella companies
FREE access to our CPD Academy
A dedicated consultant who actually listens
Opportunities in SEND, mainstream, and alternative provisions
Fast, straightforward registration
