An ‘outstanding’ SEN school in South Tyneside is looking for a learning support assistant to work with a class of 6 pupils with autism. Each class has around 3 to 4 LSA’s and the school provides amazing training on communication, sensory strategies and behaviour management for new members of staff.
The headteacher is very supportive and is looking to hear from candidates that have an eagerness to learn and be part of a friendly team.

The main duties will include:

  • Supporting the pupils in their education through the schools own curriculum
  • Supporting the class teacher with recording attainment, behaviour plans and EHCP paperwork
  • Carrying out interventions in small groups and 1:1
  • Following the schools behaviour management policy effectively
  • Promoting independence with life skills
  • Providing an outstanding level of safeguarding and pastoral care

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be available for work Monday to Friday
  • Have some experience with autism (desirable but not essential)
  • Candidates with no experience but a willingness to learn are welcome to apply
  • Be proactive, energetic, kind and caring
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to go through the process with ourselves)
  • A full checkable work history

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
