SEMH Behaviour Support Assistant – Northumberland (Full-Time)

Can you stay calm when others can't? Do you believe positive relationships can change a young person's future?

Protocol Education is seeking a full-time SEMH Behaviour Support Assistant to work in a specialist educational setting supporting learners with social, emotional and mental health needs.

This is a role for someone who understands that behaviour is communication. Every day you'll help learners build trust, regulate emotions and develop the confidence to engage with education again.

Working alongside experienced teachers and pastoral staff, you'll become a consistent and reliable adult in a learner's day. Some days you'll celebrate academic success, while on others you'll simply celebrate a learner walking into school with a smile. Every achievement matters.

Why join Protocol Education?

We're passionate about matching great people with great schools. Alongside weekly PAYE pay, you'll receive free CPD, ongoing consultant support, career advice and access to long-term opportunities across specialist education.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting learners displaying challenging behaviour
  • Using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
  • Building trusting relationships
  • Supporting learning inside and outside the classroom
  • Encouraging confidence and emotional resilience
  • Working closely with teaching and pastoral teams

What we're looking for

You'll be calm, resilient and naturally encouraging. You'll understand the importance of consistency, patience and empathy when supporting young people with SEMH needs.

Experience in youth work, residential care, education or support work would be highly valued.

Apply today and make a genuine difference every single day.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
