Job description
Secondary Special Needs support staff

Have you got previous experience in childcare or education? Do you have patience and a passion for working with children? Have you had experience with special needs or learning difficulties? Working with special needs (SEN) can be so rewarding as well as challenging. In a role like this you can be involved in helping students reach their full potential. A position like this involves working with pupils to help them reach milestones in their education as well as life skills. You can help students relate to subjects at their own pace and support them in physical activities as well as academic work.

Your daily duties may consist of but are not limited to:

•Supporting students with class work
•Helping to keep students focused on the subject at hand
•Helping integrate pupils with emotional difficulties into group activities
•Supporting the class teacher to deliver lessons and learning materials
•Supervising meal times
•Helping students with exercises or physiotherapy
•Liaising with parents, carers and teachers about student's progress

It can be a rewarding role as you are helping to show pupils that the smallest steps can be the biggest achievements.
Experience or knowledge in the following would be beneficial but not always essential:

ØDyslexia
ØDyspraxia
ØADHD
ØEBD
ØMild Severe learning difficulties
ØDowns Syndrome
ØCerebral Palsy
ØBritish Sign Language
ØMakaton
ØPECS or any visual learning techniques
ØSensory training
