A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Gateshead is looking for a motivated Psychology Graduate Learning Support Assistant to join its team from September.

The school is committed to supporting the academic, social, emotional and behavioural development of every child. You'll work alongside experienced teachers, teaching assistants and the SENCO, gaining valuable insight into how children's development and behaviour can influence their ability to learn.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Child Psychology, Mental Health, Counselling, Teaching or other child-focused careers.

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:

• Provide one-to-one and small group support to primary-aged pupils.
• Support children with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and other additional needs.
• Help pupils develop emotional regulation, communication and social skills.
• Encourage positive behaviour using consistent and supportive strategies.
• Support children who may experience anxiety, low confidence or barriers to learning.
• Assist teachers with personalised learning activities and interventions.
• Observe pupil behaviour, engagement and progress and communicate relevant information to staff.
• Help pupils build independence, resilience and confidence.
• Develop positive and professional relationships with pupils.
• Contribute to a calm, safe and inclusive classroom environment.

What We're Looking For

• A degree in Psychology or a closely related subject.
• Genuine interest in working with children.

• Excellent communication skills.
• Previous experience working with children is desirable but not essential.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
