A primary school which is caters for children with severe learning difficulties, multiple learning difficulties and autism which is in the borough of Southwark is looking for a higher learning teaching assistant to join their team. The role requires that you work Monday to Friday throughout term time during the hours 08:30- 16:00 and would be starting after the Easter Break.

The school has three main aims for its pupils to be able to communicate as fully as possible, to develop as many self-help skills as possible to become independent and included as fully as possible.

The ideal candidate for this role will be a caring compassionate individual who has a passion for working with children with special needs.

You will be working either on a 1:1 basis or small groups with pupils and will be keeping the pupils engage with the lesson. It is important that you are confident with dealing with challenging behaviour and experience in being able to deescalate conflict in either a professional or personal capacity would be beneficial.

To be considered for this role, you must be:


• Confident in managing challenging behaviour.
• Able to come up with creative approaches to keep students engaged with the learning process.
• Available immediately and able to commit for at least 6 months.
• Able to prepare materials for lessons as well as adapt current resources.
• Comfortable assessing a pupil's progress and supporting the class teacher.
• Able to provide a reference from the last two years working with children or vulnerable adults in either a professional or volunteer capacity.
• A Level 3 qualification.
• Confident in running the class in the teacher's absence

An enhanced DBS is required by law to work with children, if you do not have one on the update service, you must be prepared to apply for one through Protocol Education at the cost of £40.
