SEN CLASS TEACHER (DURHAM)

Are you a teacher who believes that relationships come before results and that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and understood?

We are seeking a compassionate and reflective teacher to join a specialist primary SEN provision in Durham. This is an exciting opportunity for a mainstream class teacher who is ready to take a stepping stone into specialist education. Prior SEN experience is not essential—full training and support will be provided.

You will work with pupils who have a range of additional needs, including autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, and learning difficulties. Many pupils use behaviour as a way to communicate, and your nurturing approach will help them feel regulated, secure, and ready to learn.

The role will involve:

  • Planning and delivering personalised, engaging lessons

  • Supporting pupils with complex emotional and behavioural needs

  • Creating a calm, structured, and nurturing classroom environment

  • Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and families

  • Using trauma-informed and sensory strategies to support learning and wellbeing

We are looking for a patient, resilient, and emotionally intelligent teacher who is confident supporting vulnerable children and committed to inclusive practice.

This role offers exceptional professional development, specialist SEN training, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact on pupils’ lives.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer FREE online safeguarding and Prevent Duty training to all our workers. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.

Full assistance provided. For details of our privacy policy, please see visit the Protocol Education website.
