Job description
A Primary school in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham is looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join their team. The role is to support a student in Year 6 who has Downs syndrome; the child is independent and has basic reading and number skills. The successful candidate is someone who can be given learning objectives and take initiative and plan activities with guidance to best meet the child's needs; be calm and patient, never showing frustration towards the student.

Ideally you will:

Have previous experience of working in a School Nursery or School Classroom setting.

Preferably has experience of working with children who have additional needs, both physical and behavioural.

Have good communication skills with staff, children and parents

Be able to work as part of a team, but also use initiative and self- direction when needed

Please note the following requirements prior to applying for this position:

1. you need to supply two years of references of which at least one must be from a school setting

2. you must have a good level of both spoken and written English

We undertake safeguarding checks on all our workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’. As part of these checks, we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in schools. If you do not have a valid subscription to the DBS Update Service, we will require you to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process, at a cost of £44.00.
