This role is based within a centre for autism in a mainstream school located in the London borough of Lambeth. The school follows the national curriculum but also offer a modified curriculum to ensure children can participate in all areas of the curriculum and learn effectively from their individual starting points. Although this role is temporary please be aware that you may be able to progress into a long-term supply position.

Part of your role will include supporting the teacher with a variety of teaching methods to suit each pupils' different learning styles. For instance, some children will benefit from a multi-sensory approach that accommodates their kinaesthetic and visual learning styles.

As an ASD Learning Mentor, you will need to be resilient, compassionate and patient, understanding the importance of embracing individual uniqueness within every child. By creating a safe and encouraging environment so that each pupil can flourish and feel a sense of accomplishment, belonging and acceptance.

Responsibilities:

·Managing pupil's performance
·Ensuring students engage with lessons, providing academic support and working under the instruction of the class teacher.
·Helping the students with their life skills

For this role, you will have:

·Experience working mainstream schools in the SEN department, special needs school or in Youth Work.
·Previous support work within a school or other child related experience.
·Strong behaviour management and confident with challenging behaviour.
·Happy to work one to one and small group work.
·An enthusiastic and friendly, yet firm approach.
