This role is based within a centre for autism in a mainstream school located in the London borough of Lambeth. The school follows the national curriculum but also offer a modified curriculum to ensure children can participate in all areas of the curriculum and learn effectively from their individual starting points. Although this role is temporary please be aware that you may be able to progress into a long-term supply position.
Part of your role will include supporting the teacher with a variety of teaching methods to suit each pupils' different learning styles. For instance, some children will benefit from a multi-sensory approach that accommodates their kinaesthetic and visual learning styles. As an ASD Tutor, you will need to be resilient, compassionate and patient, understanding the importance of embracing individual uniqueness within every child. By creating a safe and encouraging environment so that each pupil can flourish and feel a sense of accomplishment, belonging and acceptance.
Responsibilities:
·Boosting academic performance in English (including reading, writing and phonics), Maths, Science and other subjects.
·Communication, speech and language skills.
·Social skills, behaviour and emotional-regulation support.
·Study-skills and organisation-skills support.
·Building confidence and self-esteem.
·Enhancing independence.

For this role, you will have:
·A QTS or Teaching and Learning Support Qualification.
·Experience working in a mainstream schools in the SEN department, a special needs school or in private tutoring.
·Previous support work within a school or other child related experience.
·Happy to work one to one and small group work.
·Have an enthusiastic and friendly, yet firm approach.
