Job description
SEND Teacher Opportunity in Kingston

A special educational needs teacher is required at an inclusive school in Kingston. The school is an Outstanding' special school for students with ASD aged between 3-19. The school is known for its staff retention and praises itself for the opportunities for progression it offers to its members of staff.

The school are looking for teacher who can cover one of their post 16 classes starting after the Easter break until the end of the academic year with a view for it to continue through to September. Although the students in this class have autism these students are high functioning and most go on to further education or work placements.

The class sizes are small due to the nature of the impairments and the maximum capacity is 8 children in each class. There is excellent-in class support provided by experienced high-level Teaching Assistants which helps to support the ratio of adults to pupils in the school.
The role requires you to be a confident teacher whilst experience working with ASD children would be beneficial but is not essential as the school would consider a strong mainstream teacher. You will be required to plan the lessons, write reports and proactively participate in the general running of the school. You must be vigilant with regards to pupil's wellbeing but most importantly it is essential that you are able to think outside the box' and employ a creative attitude to teaching every child.

• Teaching a Post 16 class of students with ASD
• Knowledge of Life Skills' and Further Education'
• Assessing pupil's levels and ability
• Differentiating work based on students' needs and abilities
• Preparing, planning and marking work
• Good behaviour management of the class room
• Ensuring the schools ethos and policies are being implemented
• Liaising with parents and carers
