Helping every child access learning, their way

Not all progress looks the same. And in this Sunderland SEN setting, that’s fully understood.

We’re looking for an Occupational Therapist who sees beyond paperwork and into real, everyday impact, someone who can take what’s written in an EHCP and bring it to life in the classroom.

This is a setting where children are genuinely at the centre of everything. Staff work closely together, share ideas, and create a learning environment that supports both academic and personal growth.

What you’ll be doing

  • Reviewing and interpreting EHCPs, making sure provision is meaningful and actually delivered
  • Assessing pupils with a range of needs, including autism and complex SEN profiles
  • Working closely with teachers and support staff to embed strategies into daily routines
  • Supporting sensory regulation, motor skills and independence within the classroom
  • Monitoring progress and adapting interventions based on what’s working

Teamwork that actually works

You won’t be working in isolation here. You’ll be part of a collaborative team where therapists, teachers and support staff share responsibility for outcomes. Everyone’s input matters, and your expertise will be valued.

Who is this role for

  • An OT with experience in SEN settings or a strong interest in moving into this space
  • Someone confident working with EHCPs and multi-agency teams
  • A practitioner who enjoys problem-solving and adapting approaches
  • Someone who believes every child can make progress, with the right support

If you want a role where your work is seen, felt and makes a difference every single day, this could be the one.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer FREE online safeguarding and Prevent Duty training to all our workers. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.

Full assistance provided. For details of our privacy policy, please see visit the Protocol Education website.
