Job description
Level 3 Nursery Practitioner

QUALIFICATIONS: NNEB, BTEC NATIONAL DIPLOMA or NVQ Level 3 Certificate is essential and a firm understanding of EYFS. Relevant experience of working in a day care setting (minimum 2 years)

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POST:
Excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to supervise and support Nursery Assistants. The ability to work flexibly, working a variable shift pattern. To attend all mandatory training and any further training to support the role. To have a commitment to providing an environment that promotes high quality childcare.

THE POST HOLDER:
To be responsible for the care and development of children aged from 6 weeks to 5 years of age. To provide a happy, safe and stimulating environment where the children will have the opportunity to play, develop and learn new skills. To work as a positive role model offering guidance, support and advise to more junior staff members. To work as part of a team promoting good working practices to ensure a high quality of care is delivered.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
• To plan and implement activities relevant to the age/stage of development of the children in their care.
• Follow guidelines set by OFSTED with regard to the Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements.
• You will be assigned as a key person to a group of children. You will be expected to observe and record what the children do and plan the next steps for the children's play, learning and development with regard to EYFS.
• Supervise meal times, rest periods and nappy changing/toileting. To promote good hygiene practices.
• Maintain a daily register of staff and children within the room.
• To work in partnership with parents ensuring continuity of care for their children. To communicate verbally on a daily basis with parents with regard to their child's welfare and development.
• To record information relating to children's individual progress and development and share this information periodically at parents meetings.
• To attend any staff meetings or any training courses pertinent to the role to help aid professional and personal development. To actively contribute to work required for the nursery to receive a recognised Quality Assurance Award.
• To monitor and record all accidents and be aware of any potential hazards within the building.
• To remove any broken or potentially dangerous equipment and report findings to Senior Staff member.
• To implement Nursery Policies and Procedures and promote good working practices at all times.
• To be responsible for the children during outings and visits outside of the nursery. This will include ensuring staff: child ratios are maintained at all times.
• Utilise opportunities to promote the nursery and encourage parents/guardians to be actively interested and involved in the nursery and their child's day.
• To ensure all information about children is treated with sensitivity and absolute confidentiality.
• Any other duties in a Day Nursery setting laid down by the Manager

Please note: We undertake safeguarding checks on all our workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance 'Keeping Children Safe in Education'. As part of these checks, we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in schools. If you do not have a valid subscription to the DBS Update Service, we will require you to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process, at a cost of £44.00.
