Qualifications and experience required:
• At least a level 3 qualification in childcare
• Some experience as a key worker and good understanding of the EYFS
• Experience with preschool age children (3-5 years) or a desire to gain experience with this age group.
Main purpose of the job:
• To provide a high standard of care and education for the children in line with the nursery policies and procedures, the Early Years Foundation Stage and OFSTED requirements.
• To work as part of a team in order to provide a fun, enjoyable and enabling environment in which all individual children can play, develop and learn.
• To build and maintain effective partnerships with parents to enable children's needs are being met.
Duties and responsibilities:
• Ensure all children are safeguarded and protected at all times. Report any concerns about a child's wellbeing to a Designated Safeguarding Officer immediately.
• Provide play-based learning opportunities for all children.
• Ensure high levels of interaction with children in order to help extend their learning.
• Act as a key person for a group of children. Create individual plans/next steps for these children on a weekly basis in line with their developmental level and personal interests.
• Conduct weekly observations of key children.
• Monitor the overall development of key children and report to the nursery manager/deputy manager any children who are exceeding or not meeting expected levels of development.
• Build strong partnerships with parents/carers, communicate with them often about their child's achievements.
• Provide parents/carers with information on how they can support their child's learning and development.
• Prepare reports on key children's progress 4 times per year and meet with parents/carers in order to share these.
• Support children and parents/carers with the transition to the nursery/room.
• Support children at mealtimes ensuring these provide a positive social experience for the children.
• Provide support for children who are transitioning to new settings.
Staff/other professionals:
• Work professionally and effectively with other staff in the nursery to ensure the nursery policies and procedures are implemented consistently.
• Work with other staff to create an environment where all children's individual needs are met, having an awareness of family cultures, medical requirements and individual stages of development.
• Attend and contribute to monthly staff/team meetings.
• Support other members of the staff team as well as students and volunteers.
Other
• Attend training courses relevant to your role and share with other staff and implement what is learnt.
• Be prepared to work with all age groups as required.
• Ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures.
• Adhere to all risk assessments and other Health and Safety guidelines
• Complete relevant paperwork in order that the nursery meets Health and Safety requirements, including accident and incident reports
• Administer appropriate first aid treatment as required
• Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by a senior member of staff
