Job Description

This role involves delivering high-quality mathematics education to students within a school setting. The successful candidate will plan, prepare, and teach engaging lessons that meet the requirements of the national curriculum and cater to the varying abilities of learners. The post holder will assess and monitor pupils’ progress, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate records. The role requires effective classroom management, collaboration with colleagues, and participation in school initiatives to support student development.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and assess lessons in mathematics that are engaging, inclusive, and meet curriculum standards.
• Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with additional learning requirements.
• Set clear learning objectives and success criteria to support student achievement.
• Monitor and record student progress, providing timely feedback to encourage improvement.
• Maintain a positive and safe learning environment through effective classroom management techniques.
• Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding student progress and behaviour when appropriate.
• Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum development.
• Support the wider school community by participating in extracurricular activities and school events as required.
• Uphold school policies and procedures, including safeguarding and health and safety regulations.

Required Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent accreditation recognised in England.
• Degree in Mathematics or a closely related subject.

Education and Experience

• Experience teaching mathematics to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students within secondary education.
• Proven ability to plan and deliver effective lessons that engage learners and promote academic progress.
• Experience working within a school environment adhering to national curriculum guidelines.

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong subject knowledge in mathematics, including the ability to teach a range of topics from basic numeracy to GCSE level content.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with students, parents, and colleagues effectively.
• Competence in assessing student work and using data to inform teaching strategies.
• Ability to manage classroom behaviour positively and maintain discipline.
• Familiarity with current educational policies, safeguarding requirements, and the national curriculum.
• Organisational skills to manage lesson planning, assessment records, and classroom resources efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification in education or mathematics.
• Experience teaching A-level mathematics or additional qualifications beyond GCSE.
• Training or experience in supporting students with special educational needs or disabilities.
• Knowledge of educational technology and digital teaching tools.

Working Conditions

• The role is based in a school environment within Redcar, North Yorkshire.
• Full-time hours are expected, typically around 37 hours per week during term time.
• The position is temporary, with the duration dependent on school requirements and staffing needs.
• Work involves standing for extended periods and requires the ability to engage actively with students.
• The role may occasionally involve working outside of normal school hours for meetings or extracurricular activities.
• Compliance with safeguarding and health and safety policies is mandatory.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
