Role overview

As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll work closely with class teachers to support pupils with a range of additional needs, including SEN, SEMH and PMLD. You’ll provide tailored support both 1:1 and in small groups, helping pupils to access learning, build independence and develop essential social and emotional skills.

You’ll play a key part in creating a calm, structured and inclusive classroom where pupils feel encouraged and able to engage positively with their education.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with SEN, SEMH and PMLD
  • Support children on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, adapting to individual learning styles
  • Assist with the implementation of EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
  • Use positive behaviour strategies to encourage engagement and focus
  • Support pupils who communicate differently or need additional emotional regulation support
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, families and staff

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, experience within SEN settings is desirable but not essential
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • Backgrounds in care, youth work, education or support roles are highly valued

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
