We are seeking a caring and dedicated SEND-specialist Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming junior school community in Downend.

This is an opportunity to support children with additional needs in a school that values inclusion, resilience, respect, and working together to help every pupil achieve their potential. The successful candidate will play an important role in creating a safe, encouraging environment where children can build confidence and enjoy learning.

This is a temp-to-perm contract, meaning once you work 12 weeks through our agency, you will enter a permanent contract directly with the school.

The role

You will:

  • Working 1:1 with a lower key stage 2 child with complex needs (autism and PDA profile)
  • Support SEND pupils within the classroom and during wider school activities
  • Provide individual and small-group support to help children access learning
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
  • Help children develop independence, confidence, and social skills
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENCO, and families to provide consistent support
  • Promote an environment where children are ready, respectful, and safe in their learning and interactions.

What we're looking for

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Patient, calm, and compassionate
  • Able to build positive relationships with children and colleagues
  • Confident supporting pupils with varying needs and abilities
  • A strong team player who values collaboration
  • Resilient and committed to helping every child succeed.

Experience in schools, care settings, youth work, sports coaching, or similar roles would be beneficial.

Compliance requirements

All applicants must have:

  • An enhanced child-only DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one
  • A minimum of 24 months of references covering employment, education, or relevant experience
  • The right to work in the UK

What we offer

  • Weekly PAYE pay, with no umbrella companies
  • Free access to online CPD and training opportunities
  • Dedicated support from a local consultant
  • Opportunities to build experience within SEND and primary education settings
  • A chance to become part of a school community that values enthusiasm, respect, courage, and resilience in both pupils and staff.

If you're passionate about supporting children with additional needs and want to make a meaningful difference every day, we'd love to hear from you.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
