Primary SEN Support Teaching Assistant

Every child deserves someone who believes in them. Could that someone be you?

Sometimes, the biggest difference in a child's school day comes from the person sitting beside them.

The encouraging smile before a tricky lesson. The quiet reassurance when confidence wobbles. The celebration of the little wins that soon become big achievements.

We're looking for a caring, enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Bury St Edmunds. If you're passionate about helping children flourish, love celebrating progress and believe every child deserves the chance to shine, we'd love to hear from you.

No two days are ever the same, and that's exactly what makes this role so rewarding.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting pupils in the classroom, either one-to-one or in small groups.
  • Helping children build confidence, independence and a love of learning.
  • Working closely with teachers to create engaging and inclusive lessons.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and celebrating every achievement, no matter how small.
  • Creating a safe, nurturing environment where every child feels valued.

We're looking for someone who

  • Has experience working with children, whether in schools, nurseries, clubs or care settings.
  • Is patient, positive and genuinely enjoys helping children succeed.
  • Has excellent communication skills and works well as part of a team.
  • Can build strong relationships with pupils and staff alike.
  • Brings energy, kindness and a positive attitude every single day.

Experience supporting children with SEND is welcomed but isn't essential. What matters most is your enthusiasm, compassion and willingness to learn.

What you'll find at the school

  • A friendly and supportive team who love working together.
  • Children who'll keep you smiling, thinking and on your toes.
  • Opportunities to develop your skills and grow your career.
  • A welcoming school where you'll feel part of the team from day one.

Why join Protocol Education?

When you work with Protocol Education, you're never just another name on a list. We take the time to understand what you're looking for and match you with schools where you can really make a difference.

You'll also receive:

  • Weekly PAYE pay, no umbrella companies.
  • FREE access to our online CPD Academy.
  • A dedicated consultant who'll support you throughout your journey.
  • Opportunities across mainstream, SEND and alternative provision settings.
  • A simple, hassle-free registration process.
  • A referral scheme where you can earn rewards for recommending friends.

Looking to develop your skills?

Ask us about our FREE Thrive training, designed to help you better understand children's emotional wellbeing and development. It's a fantastic qualification that schools value and a brilliant way to build your confidence in the classroom.

If you're ready to make every school day brighter for the children who need it most, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and start a role where every day brings new smiles, new challenges and the chance to make a lasting difference.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
