Primary Teachers Learning Support Assistant

Looking for a role where every day genuinely makes a difference?

We’re working with a welcoming primary school in Romford looking for a full-time Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with Special Educational Needs. This is the kind of role where patience, consistency, and a calm approach go a very long way, and where the small wins are often the biggest ones.

You’ll be supporting children who are working towards the national curriculum, so a solid understanding of the primary curriculum is really important. Some pupils may need extra help staying focused, regulating emotions, or managing behaviour in the classroom, so the school is looking for someone who can build positive relationships while keeping learning on track.

No two days are ever quite the same, but that’s part of the magic.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting children with SEN in and out of the classroom
  • Helping pupils access learning linked to the primary national curriculum
  • Managing behaviour positively and confidently
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO
  • Creating a calm, encouraging learning environment
  • Supporting pupils socially, emotionally, and academically

What the school is looking for:

  • Experience supporting children with SEN
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • A good understanding of the primary curriculum
  • A calm, resilient, and proactive attitude
  • Someone who can build trust quickly with pupils and staff
  • Relevant experience in schools, care, youth work, or support settings

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience with autism, ADHD, SEMH, or speech and language needs
  • Thrive training or other SEN-based CPD
  • Team Teach or de-escalation training

Not Thrive trained yet? No worries, we can help with that too. Protocol Education offers FREE Thrive training to help you build confidence supporting children with emotional and social development needs, and schools absolutely love seeing it on your CV.

Why work with Protocol Education?

  • Weekly PAYE pay, no umbrella companies
  • FREE access to our online CPD Academy
  • Personalised support from your dedicated consultant
  • Opportunities in mainstream and SEND settings
  • Streamlined registration process
  • Referral scheme rewards for recommending friends

If you’re the kind of person who stays calm when things get tricky, celebrates the little wins, and knows the power of a good relationship in the classroom, we’d love to hear from you.

Apply now or get in touch to find out more.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
