Job description
I am working with a Secondary school base between Slough and High Wycombe who are looking for a Dance Teacher to lead the department full time from January 2018.

Dance Department
The Schools Dance Department is a well-established department consisting of one lead teacher. Dance is a very popular subject by students across the school and students have the opportunity to study a wide genre of dance styles including Hip-hop, Parkour, Musical Theatre, Bollywood Dance and Contemporary. Within the department, they have a wide-range of teaching resources including a large dance studio with sprung floors and mirrors. Throughout the year, they offer students opportunities to participate in workshops, a number of extra-curricular clubs and various school performances.

Curriculum
At Key Stage 3 they currently follow a varied programme of study, so that students experience a wide range of dance styles. Students are given target levels at the start of each year and tested five times a year to assess progress against their target grades.
At Key Stage 4 students have the option of undertaking Level 2 BTEC Dance. Teaching of some key aspects of the course begins during Year 9, by introducing topics based around choreography. However, the majority of the specification is taught through both theory and practical lessons in Years 10 and 11.
At Key Stage 5 students can undertake the BTEC Level 3 Dance (equivalent of 1 A Level). This course is completed over two years and involves students undertaking a number of different units, based on developing knowledge of dance styles and practitioners within the industry.

The staff at the school strive to extend the horizons of the students, encouraging them to aim high and become independent learners. With a robust, ambitious development plan, teachers can focus on improving the quality of learning and outcomes. Students need little encouragement to take part in a very wide range of extra-curricular activities, including a range of sports, dance, community service and enterprise. To support this, colleagues are encouraged to contribute their skills and enthusiasm to the wider curriculum, with its opportunities for adventurous learning and active citizenship.
In return, staff benefit from a comprehensive induction programme. Ongoing career development is an expectation for all, with opportunities provided for staff to advance within the school, as well as offering support for those who may wish to find promotion elsewhere.

This position is recognised as carrying Teaching and Learning responsibility points equivalent to TLR2B on the School's published pay policy.

I look forward to receiving your application.
