Protocol Education are working with a Secondary School in Brighton to appoint an Inclusion Mentor for September. You will be working under guidance to provide support in addressing the needs to pupils who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning.
You will be supporting the pupils through pastoral support and guidance to overcome their barriers. You will attend to pupils’ personal needs and provide advice to assist their social, health and hygiene development. You will be able to establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and develop 1:1 mentoring arrangements with pupils and provide support for distressed pupils.
Whilst supporting the pupils you will also be supporting the teachers. You will liaise with feeder schools and other relevant bodies to gather pupil information and work with staff in planning, evaluating, and adjusting learning activities as appropriate. With the teacher you will monitor and evaluate pupils’ responses and progress against action plans through observation and planned recording. You will be responsible for keeping and updating records as agreed with other staff, contributing to reviews of systems/records as requested.
As an Inclusion Mentor you will also support implement agreed learning activities and teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupils needs. In this role you will be come a full member of the school team and this is a permanent position.
Essential requirements of the role:
- NVQ 3 for Teaching Assistant or equivalent qualification or experience
- Understanding of principles of child development and learning processes and in particular, barriers to learning
- Experience of working with children with additional needs
- Experience of working within Secondary schools
- Very good numeracy and literacy skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
