A primary school based in the heart of East London are looking for an experienced HR Manager to work in their lovely school. Role will require suitable applicant to lead and manage by providing professional skills and technical capabilities, specialist subject knowledge (including employment legislation) integrity in decision making and operational activity that is required for the effective operations of Human Resource Management.

The role requires the HR Manager to make a major contribution to the successful strategic management and administration of the Primary School and its day to day efficiency. To develop, maintain and operate administrative procedures for the school in order to ensure that all legal requirements are met. To be responsible for the provision of an effective human resources service to ensure the efficient functioning of the school and to provide personal administrative support to the Head Teacher. To actively promote the continuous professional development of all staff in the school.


Duties will include:

·To ensure that the school meets its statutory employment, equality, health and safety obligations.

·To take an advisory and proactive role in the strategic management of staffing at the Primary school and report to the Head Teacher and governing body.

·To lead and proactively fill vacant posts with high calibre staff jointly with the Head Teacher.

·To lead and maintain procedures to ensure that Safeguarding of children (including the maintenance of a single central record)

·To be responsible for maintenance of up-to-date accurate personnel records in accordance with statutory and audit requirements.

·To lead and manage the performance management process as it applies to teaching and support staff

·To work with the HT to ensure that staffing levels are sufficient to deliver the curriculum of the school in an efficient and cost effective way.

·To prepare effective recruitment materials including job descriptions, person specifications, advertisements and information packs for candidates which reflect the school in a positive light.

·To service the short listing panel and provide them with references and other documentation as required.

·To lead and manage the interview process and timetable of the interview day

·Ensure effective communication with candidates throughout the interview process. Upon appointment arrange for the appropriate documentation to be completed and statutory requirements (including safeguarding checks) met.

·Lead and manage the induction process for all new staff at all levels to ensure all regulations are met.

·To track and monitor staff absence and service governors staffing committees with reports as appropriate

·To lead and manage good absence management control including return to work interviews, setting up occupational health interviews - work to reduce the impact of long term absence in line with school policy.

·Work closely with the HT and Finance Manager to model the financial impact of all staffing appointments

·Interpret and advise on all legislation pertaining to staffing and staff training

·Coordination of staff training needs following performance management interviews (both teaching and support staff)

·Ensuring all staffs child protection training is reviewed annually - including mid-day supervisors and cleaners

To be considered for this role It is essential that you have the following experience:

·Substantial experience of delivering an efficient and effective generalist HR service

·Experience of contributing to the development and implementation of HR Policies

·Experience of consultation and negotiation with a range of stakeholders

·Experience of HR software systems to support report and statistical information requirements

·Full working knowledge of relevant policies/codes of practice

·Solid experience of managing and maintaining the sickness and absence procedures in line with LA guidance

·Ability to manage own work effectively using initiative to achieve objectives

·Ability to produce accurate work to tight deadlines

·Excellent communication skills and the ability to work and influence at all levels

·Organised approach to work in relation to professional standards and competencies

·Flexible approach to changing work tasks and prioritising to specific needs

·Ability to demonstrate commitment to Equal Opportunities and customer service practices in the context of service delivery

·Advanced ICT skills, including good understanding of ICT Systems and the ability to develop them

·Excellent oral/written communication and negotiation skills

It is Desirable that you have the following experience:

·Solid experience of complete payroll oversight and management from start to finish
